The 9mm silencer I made for my HP suppressors well enough, but I need a combination of a hot (but still subsonic) 147 grain load and a cut down light weight spring to make it cycle properly.

I have decided that I will try to make my own nielsen device, but having only seen one attached to the can, I was not able to determine how to make it. Does anyone have drawings or plans for one? Thanks.

The problems with making your own booster is if you get it wrong (and there are lots of ways to do that) it can destroy your pistol in a surprisingly small number of rounds.

So unless you know what you are doing, it is not recommended.

You could consider building your can to accept threaded boosters from a real manufacturer. Boosters for Evo-9s/40s/45s are available as are HEMS2 boosters, surely between AAC and SWR there's a booster you could use.

AWC also has a booster which is threaded 1/2"x28 on both the male and female ends which the made/make for the Abraxas series of 9mm cans. They cost about $100. I found mine on gunbroker when a SOT got out of the business.

Does the ATF consider a recoil booster (or Nielsen device) that is a seperate piece and that is not integral to the suppressor ... do they consider this a suppressor part? Or is it an accessory, like a thread adapter?

I got to play with this. I like it and want one myself.

So could I get a recoil booster for a GemTech Blackside that just screws in? If mine wont run I may have to do this.

No, you can't. We're talking about making a home-brew can with rear threads for a booster. Blacksides have no such threads and will not accept a booster.

If this was done for the HK threads then why would'nt it work?

Ah, I see what you're saying now... still not sure if it would work, but it might be worth a shot if you have reliability issues with a blackside.

$100 my ass. You got a killer deal then. I emailed AWC and they quoted me $300 for one of these boosters. While I'd really like to have one, that is more than 50% the cost of an entire can.

$100 was what I paid for mine on gunbroker.com when an SOT got out of the business. :D I guess AWC has since realized the value of that specific item.

Not really. Like a said, I drew that in paint just to represent the parts. Everyone's device would have to be different based on caliber, suppressor diameter and weight, etc...

I estimated that one to be 1/2x28tpi on both ends, about 1.5" in diameter and 2" long.

Also, I have seen pics of these with holes in the piston into the spring chamber. Dunno if that is correct or not but it seems counter intuitive to me.

This one is Knights also. This one is the Mk. 23 can because it has the metal buffer in it. IIRC the USP Tactical version doesn't.

So what EXACTLY does the device do?

Allow the suppressor to basically stand still while the barrel and slide start the rearward cycle? Removing the mass of the suppressor from the barrel and slides mass?? Or......what........??

It gives a little push backwards to help unlock the barrel of the pistol.

I always hear that but I just don't visualize it in all the pictures and 2 dimensional drawings. Maybe I'm slow.
